mmm, pancakes!

mmm, pancakes!

Great.

We’re making great progress with the lessons navigation.

You learned where the 'windowsill' is in the lower frame of the reading pane.

Z

You learned how to checkmark a Lesson as Understood.

You got used to the fact that the screen can scroll up to the top after you click or tap the checkmark button.

You learned how to move forward one lesson using the Next Lesson right arrow.

You learned you'll need to use both these buttons every time they appear.

Next, we’re going to talk about pancakes.  Hope you’re not hungry.

But first we need to know if you can see and use the left sidebar.

If you are on a desktop or a large screen device, the left sidebar is probably already visible.

With the left sidebar revealed, on the left side of your screen, outside of this reading pane, you should be able to see:

  • what % of the course is now complete, at the top

  • the beginning of the Course Curriculum (in outline form), starting with the Introduction section

  • below the Introduction section header, a list of lessons and quizzes.  Icons to the left of each lesson or quiz title change to a checkmark once the lesson is marked as Understood.

Please check. Can you see the left sidebar now?

Are you comfortable scrolling from within the left sidebar to see the lessons of the course outline?

If you are on a mobile or small screen device, the left sidebar may be hidden by default.

And on a small screen device, because the screen area is so limited, you will probably want to turn the device sideways (landscape) when you reveal the left sidebar, so that it doesn’t take over your entire screen.

Rotate a mobile device from portrait to landscape

If you turn the device sideways but the screen doesn’t turn with the phone, try turning your orientation lock off.

If you need help with turning off the orientation lock, try this video.

If the left sidebar is not visible, to reveal it, please look to the TOP of your screen in the green header bar, all way over on the right hand side.

The rightmost icon is of four horizontal lines.

We say that it looks like a stack of pancakes.

We’ve given you a green arrow above to point to this button.

The pancakes button is a toggle.

Tap or click once to reveal, and again to hide.

Please find and click or tap the pancakes icon button now,
even if your left sidebar is currently showing.

Tap or click once to reveal, and again to hide.

Note that you can scroll up and down in the sidebar independently from the reading pane.

Can you see the left sidebar now?

Are you comfortable scrolling from within the left sidebar to see the lessons of the course outline?

You can click/tap on a lesson in the left sidebar to ‘jump’ to it.

The left sidebar is the easiest way to move forward or backwards multiple lessons, rather than paging through one-at-a-time using the Next Lesson button.

In addition, the icons in the left sidebar will tell you if you have missed a checkmark button on any lesson as you go through the course.

To complete the course and receive your certificate, you will need to change every half moon in the left sidebar into a checkmark.  Use the pancakes icon to reveal the sidebar, click or tap on the lesson with the half moon to jump to it, then use the checkmark button on the windowsill to mark the lesson as Understood (checked off).

OK.  One last button before we move on.

Also in the green header at the top of your screen, there’s an icon that looks like the fuel gauge on a car dashboard.

This button will exit the course and return you to your My Courses tab of My Dashboard.

You don’t need to use this button – you could just not click or tap on anything and wait until the system times you out.

But if you do choose to use it, your browser may give you an error message, which we want to tell you that you can safely ignore.

Error messages that browsers can pop up when using the fuel gauge button to exit the course include:

Leave site?  Changes you made may not be saved.  Option buttons Leave or Cancel

Are you sure you want to leave this page?  Option links Leave This Page or Stay On This Page

You can safely ignore any unsaved data pop-up messages when exiting this training course.

We can’t keep your browser from making these pop-up messages, but we can assure you that you will not lose any data, or your place or progress in the course.  All these buttons that you are clicking/tapping are saving your info every time you tap them.
