New standard for sexual consent: An opinion by Christine Emba in The Washington Post calls for raising the bar on sexual consent. Yes needs a real exclamation mark.
Yes Needs a Real Exclamation Mark
This opinion by Christine Emba in The Washington Post urges rethinking our current sexual ethic derived from consent culture as one that should be the floor of social expectation, not the ceiling.
As Christine points out, if we truly believe that love is willing the good of the other, bearing goodwill toward another for the sake of that person beyond one’s own interest, we require more than a bare minimum of badgered or influenced ambiguous consent. We pursue a sober, comfortable and enthusiastic yes, or consent with a real exclamation mark.
