Illinois Criminal Law

In part because bar and restaurant employees often work where alcohol is served, they can also find themselves in the presence of people who may not be applying the very best decision-making.
This can expose the employee to behavior that violates aspects of criminal law.
Examples could include:
-
Simple (non-sexual) assault or battery, for example in the case of a fight
-
Theft of services, in the case of a “dine and dash”
-
Vandalism
-
Public intoxication or public urination
This sexual harassment prevention course does not allow an exposition of every aspect of the Illinois Criminal Code. Let us simply emphasize that if you should get involved in a situation where someone is breaking criminal law, for example if you were to try to stop a fistfight, you must be careful that your own behavior does not draw you into violation, as well.
For a simple rule of thumb, any act that would be illegal outside the work environment should be avoided at work as well.
